European SME Week

The European SME Week was an initiative promoted by the European Commission in 2009 to boost entrepreneurship in Europe. Third edition developed in 2011, the main events of which will take place from 3 to 9 October.

Its objective is to offer a common framework to all organized events that aim to promote entrepreneurship, competitiveness, and innovation and which wish to form part of a European framework.

The European SME Week has the following objectives:

  • To inform potential entrepreneurs and SMEs regarding the aid available to help boost their business activity.
  • To promote entrepreneurship as a career option.
  • To acknowledge the entrepreneurs and business owners that contribute to the creation of wealth in Europe, creating opportunities for employment, innovation, and competitiveness.

In Spain the Directorate-General of SME Policy (DGPYME) and the Spanish Confederation of Young Entrepreneurs (CEAJE) represent the national contact point for this initiative. In 2010 the campaign included a total of 1,504 events, 63 of which were held in Spain.
