The SME Observatory regulated by Royal Decree 943/2005 of July 29 (this information is only available in Spanish), (Official State Gazette - BOE - of September 9. Error correction [es] Official State Gazette of November 18) aims to act as an effective instrument for the analysis, debate and dissemination of questions of relevance to small- and medium-sized enterprises, as well as a discussion forum for those involved: ministerial departments, autonomous communities, business and union organizations, chambers of commerce, and representatives of the social economy.
The Observatory includes a Plenary Authority, the Executive Committee and the Consultancy Committee.
The Consultancy Committee comprises experts and researchers of renowned prestige from the professional sector and universities with experience and knowledge regarding matters related to small- and medium-sized enterprises.
The SME Observatory encourages studies on the structure of SMEs [es] and on policies related to fostering business and innovation in companies.
Likewise, it proposes action plans for the competent Administrations and recommendations for intermediary agents and SMEs aimed at boosting competitiveness.
